What I Spend In A Month | May 2025

by

Hi! Here’s everything I spent in May as a childless, middle-aged woman living in Athens, Georgia:

  • I pay $750 for my basement apartment which I lovingly call the Lair. This covers rent, utilities and internet.
  • Healthcare came to $563. This is anything connected to my doctor, dentist, therapist, or medications.
  • I spent $768 on transportation. Gas and car work AND car insurance. I pay my car insurance 6 months at a time and May was the terrible month where I had to pay for the upcoming 6 months.
  • $0 on my cat, Agent Cooper, this month. We miss my cat Matilda so much still.
  • My groceries came to $161. I’m catching up on this post late so I can’t remember exactly what I bought, but here’s the breakdown for all my shopping trips:
    • Trader Joe’s $3.11
    • Kroger $26.45
    • Walmart $15.62
    • Aldi $41.33
    • Kroger $2.90
    • Kroger $46.83
    • Aldi $2.03
    • Target $11.57
    • Aldi $11.20
  • Eating/drinking out was $118. We went back to the all-you-can-eat sushi buffet! I also got to meet up with a few friends for coffee, drinks, and dinner. This category does not include food I got while traveling — that’s in the travel category.
  • $183 on my usual cloud storage and Adobe software, plus another year of Dropbox
  • $50 on shopping. Picked up a few records and kitchenware from a couple estate sales, thrifted books, and some clearance items from Joann Fabrics (I have so many happy childhood memories there – my mom making my princess Halloween costumes, my Grandma trying to teach me how to quilt, home ec projects…).
  • $62 on entertainment. Saw three movies in theaters, saw David Cross. We also saw Amyl and the Sniffers who we’d bought tickets for earlier in the year.
  • $233 on travel. We hiked Mount Yonah one weekend, then went to the Smoky Mountains for Memorial Day weekend.
  • Nothing for my phone this month because I pay that bill once a year.
  • I currently do not have any paid subscriptions and I no longer have student loans.
  • This brings my total expenses to $2,888.
  • Coming in, I made $2,536. That’s $2,483 from work in a two-paycheck month and $53 cash back.

Welp, that’s everything for May 2025. Hope everyone’s hanging in there!
